We're in the middle of an incredible heatwave; the sun has made an appearance, the skies are blue, the birds are chirping, and summer has finally arrived.
Summertime is a wonderful thing (apart from the hay fever, perhaps) as not only does it give people a warm, optimistic glow, but it offers the chance to get out there and try something new.
There's always plenty of brilliant things to do in The Potteries during the summer and to give you a little inspiration, here are our top picks...
Having recently undergone a £10 million renovation, the Trentham Estate is a fantastic place to visit when the sun is out - especially when you get to enjoy a spot of live music in the process.
This summer, Trentham Gardens is hosting a selection of open air gigs within its grounds until 2nd September. Eat, drink, sing, dance and mosh in the Trentham’s idyllic surroundings and have the time of your life. You can find out more about tickets and the summer gig programme here.
Taking place on 7th July and 8th July, the Longton Beer Festival is a boozy knees up that we think is perfect for the summer months. Held at the legendary Gladstone Pottery Museum, this event always boasts a great atmosphere in which you can slug down a wide selection of beers and ciders in the cobbled courtyard accompanied by live music.
This annual event stands tall on Newcastle under Lyme's Ironmarket and last year it went down a treat. Now, it does take place on 16th and 17th September meaning some people might say it's not technically summer, but more often than not, in September we get the best weather, so it counts. Not only does this event help raise poverty awareness as well as vital funds for a noble cause, but there will be bands, food collection points (to donate food to those who need it in the local community) and a farmers market with over 20 tasty stalls. Fill your boots!
Taking place on the second Saturday of every month at the wonderful World of Wedgwood, this artisanal affair is simply unmissable. The event provides fun for the whole family with over 50 top notch stalls selling fine local foods, quality produce and handcrafted items, top local live music acts, magical walking trails and free pot throwing for children - you can't go wrong.
