Do our eyes deceive us? Is it true: an IMAX in Hanley?
Well, according to reliable sources, an IMAX is set to be built in North Staffordshire - or to be more accurate, in Hanley - for the first time ever. Exciting stuff indeed.
An integral part of the plans for a multi-million-pound shopping and leisure complex in Hanley's Unity Walk, the 10-screen megaplex, topped off with an IMAX viewing experience, is also going to include leisure facilities, shops, a hotel, and an extensive car park.
An IMAX screening combines a powerful digital sound and crystal-clear digital projection with a colossal, slightly curved, tilted, and specially treated IMAX high definition screen - a cinematic experience that has to be seen to be believed.
Speaking to The Sentinel, a spokesperson for one of the proposed anchor tenants, Realis said:
"Our plans for Unity Walk will see a new 10-screen cinema, including Staffordshire's first IMAX cinema, alongside a host of new restaurants and shops. Including a new leisure destination at this end of the city centre will greatly benefit the area and provide a valuable addition to the night-time economy. Negotiations have been going well with a national cinema operator, and we hope to be able to make an announcement shortly."
No longer than 12 months ago, Hanley saw the launch of The Hive, and with the Unity Walk megaplex in the making, it's plain to see that Stoke-on-Trent is on the up. Developments are happening, infrastructure improvements are being planned, and there's a sense of excitement in the air.
In fact, according to a recent survey from eMoov, Stoke-on-Trent is one of the country's top 10 growing property hot spots. You know what they say? The early bird catches the worm. So if you're a landlord, it's never been a better time in invest in The Potteries.
Food for thought indeed.
