Rockett Recommends...Burslem’s ‘Light Night’ Celebrations

Next week, Burslem, also known locally as 'The Mother Town', will come to life when an amazing array of world-class illuminations give the town a magnificent glow as part of Appetite Stoke’s Light Night celebrations. And, it’s free to attend.

From Thursday 31 January to Saturday 2 February 2019, some of the city's most creative minds promise to make Burslem town centre glisten and glow like never before, and if you're a local, you must get yourself down there.

Feeding on the energy, pride and innovation created by Stoke-on-Trent’s City of Culture 2021 bid, Light Night promises three nights of incredible twilight entertainment that will feature ground-breaking light displays, inspiring musical performances, jaw-dropping art projections, sensational art displays, and lots more.

Not only is this one-of-a-kind local event inspiring, creative and completely free (you don’t need a ticket to attend), but Light Night will appeal to students, singles, couples, friends and families alike - a cultural initiative that makes us proud to be local.

Plus, if you really want to immerse yourself in the event, you can take in the Light Night Challenge. In conjunction with Up For Arts, a partnership between Voluntary Arts and BBC Radio Stoke, families, individuals, businesses and schools across the area are invited to light up the city skyline this January during the countdown to the first night of celebrations.

You can do so by getting crafty and grabbing yourself a DIY light decoration kit from your local art shop, or by attending one of the bunting workshops on offer - either way, we’re sure you’ll have a blast.

Personally, we can’t wait to attend, and we look forward to seeing you there. If you’d like to know more about the event and what’s in store, you can grab yourself an official guide right here. It’s going to be one heck of a celebration - so don’t miss out.
